EUREKA TRAIL HEAD GRAND REOPENING

Parks and Recreation will reopen the Eureka Trail Head Saturday, December 5th at 10:00am. The trail head located off East Madison Ave in Athens is currently closed due to the construction of a newly paved parking lot and bathroom facilities. The lot will consist of ADA handicap accessible parking spaces and a full turn around designed for horse trailers. Riders will have a separate entrance onto the trail. Cyclists, horses, dogs, and pedestrians are all encouraged to utilize the 4 mile stretch from Athens to Englewood. “This Eureka Trail has been an incredible asset for the people of Athens, McMinn County, and the surrounding region,” said Seth Sumner, Athens City Planner. Sumner said the trail creates an “incredible partnership” between the City of Athens, McMinn County, and the town of Englewood. “Now you have the convenience at the trail head here in the Friendly City of bathrooms and a parking lot that will be lit and very safe for early mornings and late afternoons,” Sumner said.
